Participation in the 15th Edition of the Transfiere Forum
The ARAID researcher Jonas Gurauskis, affiliated with the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragón (INMA), participated in the 15th edition of the Transfiere Forum, a meeting space that brings together public and private agents to promote knowledge transfer, technological innovation, and collaboration between research centers, companies, and administrations.
In the context of the Transfiere Forum, Jonas presented the BMRex membrane prototype, an innovative biocatalytic membrane designed to capture and degrade micro and nanoplastics directly in the water flow. This system combines ceramic filters with enzymes capable of accelerating the decomposition of polymers, preventing these particles from re-entering the water cycle or accumulating in the environment.
The BMRex project, funded by the EIC Pathfinder Open program, has advanced from early technological maturity levels (TRL 2) to laboratory-validated tests (TRL 4) using water from real processes. Its potential for application in the treatment of industrial and domestic wastewater positions it as a promising solution to the growing challenge of microplastic pollution. This technological proposal stands out for its sustainable approach and its scalability to other critical pollutants, contributing to the improvement of water security and environmental protection.
