The Young Academy of Spain appoints ARAID researcher Carlos Anerillas as a full member
ARAID researcher Carlos Anerillas Aljama, from the Aragon Institute of Health Sciences (IACS), has been appointed as a full member of the Young Academy of Spain, after being selected from 151 international applications through a highly competitive process recognising scientific excellence.
This appointment acknowledges his research career in the field of cellular ageing, as well as his scientific projection and leadership in developing new lines of biomedical research.
Carlos Anerillas currently leads a project focused on the study of cellular senescence and its impact on age‑related diseases such as fibrosis, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. His work has been supported by an ERC Starting Grant, enabling him to advance the understanding of the mechanisms by which damaged cells contribute to the development of these conditions.
The Young Academy of Spain is a multidisciplinary institution that brings together outstanding early‑career researchers, with the aim of promoting science, fostering critical thinking and contributing to the design of scientific policies. Being appointed as a full member entails active participation in this reference platform for emerging science at the national level.
This recognition highlights ARAID’s contribution to promoting research excellence in Aragón and reinforces the international visibility of the scientific talent developed in the region.
