Sebastian Cobarrubias presents research on migration mapping at the University of Graz

ARAID researcher Sebastián Cobarrubias participated as a speaker in the Geography Colloquium of the Geography Department at the University of Graz (Austria), held on 18 May 2026, in a session aimed at the academic community and students.

During this departmental colloquium, Sebastián Cobarrubias presented recent research focused on the moral dimensions of migration maps, based on his work “The moral geographies of migration maps: spatial order as a normative basis for border control”. His presentation explored how spatial representations of migration flows not only describe realities but also help shape normative frameworks that influence border control policies.

The Geography Colloquium at the University of Graz provides a forum for academic exchange where researchers share recent work with students and specialists, fostering discussion and critical reflection within the field of geography. In this context, the ARAID contribution highlighted the role of social sciences research in understanding complex phenomena such as migration and their territorial, political and ethical implications.
