Research, business and innovation come together at a new Aragón Leaders Forum event focused on bioinformatics and biotechnology
ARAID researcher Rebeca Sanz, affiliated with the Aragón Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón), took part on 6 October in the event Biotechnology and Bioinformatics as Key Tools, organised by Aragón Leaders Forum at the Fundación Ibercaja Campus in Zaragoza. The meeting brought together representatives from research, academia, industry and investment to discuss the opportunities offered by biotechnology and bioinformatics for Aragón’s economic development and competitiveness.
The event focused on the potential of biotechnology and bioinformatics as strategic tools to foster innovation and strengthen knowledge transfer to industry. The programme featured a keynote lecture by Valeria Grazú, Research Professor at the Institute of Nanoscience and Materials of Aragón (INMA, CSIC-University of Zaragoza) and co-founder of PromethenZ.
ARAID researcher Rebeca Sanz participated in the expert panel together with Esther Borao, Director General of the Technological Institute of Aragón (ITA); Paula Esquivias, Director of the Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics at Universidad San Jorge; Sergio San Agustín, Investment Director at Clave Capital; Elena Rivas, Second Vice-President of ASEBIO; and Antonio J. Fumanal, President of the Aragón Food Cluster.
The discussion addressed some of the key challenges and opportunities linked to the development of bioinformatics in Aragón, including collaboration between research institutions and companies, the valorisation of scientific knowledge, investment attraction, and the creation of new science- and technology-based business initiatives.
The programme also featured the success story of Lifely by Origen Genetics and concluded with remarks by Carmen Susín, Regional Minister for Education, Science and Universities of the Government of Aragón.
