A monograph brings together decades of research on the Paleolithic paintings of Fuente del Trucho

ARAID researcher Jorge Angás, together with Pilar Utrilla and Manuel Bea, has co-authored a publication that brings together the scientific knowledge generated since its discovery in 1978 about the only site with Palaeolithic paintings in Aragón. Presented on 2 October at the Barbastro-Monzón Diocesan Museum, the monograph brings decades of research on the Fuente del Trucho Cave to a wider audience and contributes to raising awareness of a key heritage site for understanding the earliest artistic expressions of Prehistory.

Fuente del Trucho Cave holds a prominent place in the study of Paleolithic art on the Iberian Peninsula and is regarded as one of Aragón's most important prehistoric heritage sites. Its rock art representations provide valuable insights into the earliest artistic expressions created by prehistoric human communities.

The publication offers a comprehensive overview of the site and brings together in a single volume the knowledge generated through the various studies conducted in the cave. In doing so, it provides access to decades of scientific work and helps make this knowledge available to a broader audience beyond the academic sphere.

The initiative forms part of the programme organised to mark the 25th anniversary of Río Vero Cultural Park, a celebration aimed at highlighting the cultural and natural heritage of the area. Complementing the presentation of the book, the park also organised a special guided visit to Fuente del Trucho Cave, giving participants the opportunity to explore first-hand the setting in which these prehistoric artistic expressions have been preserved.
