The Milky Way Halo Takes Center Stage at an International Scientific Meeting in Paris
The “October in Paris” Workshop Series: The Milky Way halo – signatures of accretion, held in Paris from 5 to 9 October 2026, brought together members of the international scientific community to discuss recent advances in the study of the Milky Way halo and the Galaxy’s assembly history. ARAID researcher David Martínez Delgado contributed to the meeting with an invited talk.
The 2026 edition of the “October in Paris” workshop focused on the Milky Way halo and the observational evidence that allows astronomers to reconstruct the growth and assembly history of our Galaxy.
The meeting took place at a particularly significant time for near-field cosmology, with major astronomical missions and facilities such as Gaia DR4, the Rubin Observatory (LSST), the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, DESI, WEAVE and 4MOST providing new opportunities to explore the structure and evolution of the Milky Way. Over four days, participants followed a programme designed to connect recent observational discoveries with their physical interpretation, their broader cosmological implications and future efforts to integrate emerging results.
In this context, David Martínez Delgado delivered an invited lecture to the international scientific community, contributing to the exchange of knowledge on the evidence found in other nearby spiral galaxies of the accretion and merger processes that have shaped the present-day structure of the Milky Way. His participation reinforced the visibility of the research carried out at ARAID in international scientific forums dedicated to the study of galaxy formation and evolution.
