Jon Schoorlemmer participates in the HERVCOV annual meeting in Toulouse
ARAID researcher Jon Schoorlemmer, from the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS), participated in the 4th Annual Meeting of the European HERVCOV project, held on 6–7 July 2026 in Toulouse (France). During the meeting, he presented progress related to the development of biomarkers associated with Long COVID.
The annual meeting of the European HERVCOV project, funded through the Horizon Europe programme, brought together consortium partners to review the progress of the different research activities and coordinate upcoming work. The meeting was hosted by the Institut des Maladies Métaboliques et Cardiovasculaires (I2MC-Inserm) in Toulouse.
As part of the scientific programme, Jon Schoorlemmer participated in the session devoted to WP5 (Work Package 5), which focuses on defining a panel of human endogenous retrovirus (HERV)-related biomarkers for the stratification and diagnosis of COVID‑19 patients. The presentation was delivered jointly with Alexandre Lucas from Inserm, Toulouse, Francia.
The HERVCOV project investigates the role of HERVs in the response to SARS‑CoV‑2 infection and their potential application in improving patient diagnosis and clinical characterisation. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange results among the different participating groups and strengthen scientific collaboration within an international network dedicated to understanding the biological mechanisms associated with Long COVID, with the prospect of facilitating mechanism-anchored therapies.
