ESMO 2026 turned Madrid into a meeting point for oncology research
Madrid hosted the 2026 edition of the ESMO Congress from 23 to 27 October, one of the world's leading international meetings dedicated to cancer research and treatment. Among the attendees was ARAID researcher Alberto Jiménez, affiliated with the Aragon Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón).
ESMO 2026 brought together specialists from around the world to share some of the latest advances in oncology, ranging from new therapeutic strategies and diagnostic tools to applications of artificial intelligence and precision medicine. The programme featured sessions focused on clinical and translational research, as well as emerging approaches aimed at personalising cancer treatment.
Among the topics that attracted particular attention were advances in personalised medicine and the development of mRNA-based therapeutic vaccines, two fields that are helping expand opportunities to tailor treatments to the specific characteristics of each patient and tumour.
Participation in this international meeting provided first-hand insight into some of the research directions currently shaping the future of oncology, while also offering opportunities to exchange experiences and establish connections with researchers and healthcare professionals from different countries.
The congress once again highlighted the importance of international scientific collaboration in accelerating the translation of research into clinical practice and advancing increasingly precise and personalised approaches to cancer care.
