ARAID celebrates its 20th anniversary at the Patio de la Infanta under the motto 'We Research for Aragón'
ARAID celebrated its 20th anniversary with an institutional event at the Patio de la Infanta, a gathering that brought together over a hundred researchers, institutional representatives, and members of the Aragonese scientific ecosystem. Under the motto "We Research for Aragón", the commemorative day was attended by the Minister of Employment, Science, and Universities, Claudia Pérez Forniés, as well as the Director General of Science and Research, Pilar Gayán Sanz, who joined the ARAID community for this significant moment for science in Aragón.
The event began with the institutional welcome and the screening of the 20th-anniversary commemorative video, which reviewed the milestones and evolution of ARAID since its creation in 2004. Over these two decades, the Foundation has established itself as a key instrument for attracting, stabilizing, and promoting research talent in Aragón.
One of the central moments of the day was the recognition of the people who have led ARAID over these twenty years. Jesús Santamaría Ramiro (2005-2007), José Luis Serrano Ostáriz (2007-2009), and María Teresa Gálvez Jaqués (2009-2022) received an institutional gift and shared some words about their time at the helm of the Foundation, highlighting the work of the research community and the importance of continuing to strengthen the role of science in Aragón.
The day included two reflection sessions led by ARAID researchers, both moderated by Marcos Ruiz. The first session, "Leading Science in Aragón", featured Alberto J. Schuhmacher (IIS Aragón) and Vanesa Gil (Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón). Then, the roundtable "Betting on the Future of Science in Aragón" brought together Jorge Angás (University of Zaragoza), Alejandra González (IIS Aragón), Thomas Van Zanten (INMA), and Gema Siliceo (Dinópolis Foundation). These discussions provided a space to emphasize the role of the ARAID research community in the Aragonese scientific ecosystem and to highlight the importance of continuing to promote new collaborative work lines.
The day concluded with a speech by the Minister Claudia Pérez Forniés, who emphasized ARAID's role as "a driving force for attracting scientific talent in Aragón" and highlighted that the 20th anniversary not only celebrates the trajectory of an institution but also "an excellence project that has made Aragón a fertile land for scientific, technological, and economic development in the region".
