Four ARAID researchers promote a conference on Big Data and precision agriculture

The conference was opened by Pilar Gayán, Director General for Science and Research of the Government of Aragón, and Manuel Matamoros, Director of the Aula Dei Experimental Station (EEAD-CSIC), who highlighted the importance of advanced technologies and analytical capabilities in addressing current agri-food challenges.

Under the title “Big Data and the New Agricultural Revolution”, the event brought together researchers and specialists to explore how large-scale data analysis is transforming agricultural research, production and decision-making. The programme covered applications of bioinformatics, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and remote sensing technologies.

Presentations were delivered by Irene Julca (Aarhus University), Mario Morales (University of Zaragoza-I3A), Jordi Gené-Mola (IRTA) and José Antonio Jiménez Berni (IAS-CSIC), who shared advances in the application of digital technologies to the study of complex agricultural systems.

The meeting highlighted how the integration of data from multiple sources, together with advanced analytical and modelling tools, creates new opportunities to optimise resources, improve productivity and better understand biological processes in agricultural systems. It also reinforced dialogue between research, innovation and the productive sector in a strategic area for the future of food production and sustainability.
